Vintage serpent bangle
Vintage etched gold 9ct crossover serpent bangle set with ruby eyes.
English origin. Bangle hinges at centre back with a concealed nib that slots into side of serpent head to close. The internal diameter of widest point is 62mm. The snake is a symbol of eternal love - Prince Albert proposed to Queen Victoria in 1839 with a continuous snake ring, set with her birth stone, emerald. After the proposal, snake jewellery became very popular through out the Victorian era. In 1840’s the snake is seen to represent eternity and wisdom.
